I recently viewed this 6 part series on WWII and I was literally captivated. It aired on TV5 (French speaking network) twice and I finally managed to view all 6 episodes. The war is explained in detail with actual footage filmed by all sides in the conflict. The films are enhanced (coloured) and restored making them even more actual. The conflicts In North Africa, in the Pacific and in Europe are all explained with maps and troop movements. The hardship and suffering of the populations and soldiers are seen and felt by the viewer. From the beginning of the German-Russian Nonaggression Pact to the surrender of Japan, all steps of the war are explained and shown with unbelievable detail

Episode 1: Hitler's Rise To Power
After Hitler installed the Nazi system, he started the war against
France and Great Britain. Persecutions of Jews and Gypsies began

Episode 2: Collapse Of France
After the "Blitzkrieg- lightning war" in 1940, Hitler fails to defeat
United Kingdom and decides instead to turn against his Soviet "ally"

Episode 3: Shock
Journey back to events of WWII - Churchill refuses to make
peace. Hitler attacks the USSR

Episode 4: World Ablaze
Following the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt declares
war on Japan. The war becomes global

Episode 5: The Great Landings
In 1942, Hilter attacks the Red Army at Kursk. The Allies are landing
in Sicily and the vice is tightening in Europe around the Axis troops

Episodes 6: Inferno
In 1944, the Allies landed in Italy but are stopped in their progression
Hitler commits suicide. The Americans launch the atomic weapon
